Derek Barron

(Director/Supervisor)

With my 8 years in the coaching field I’ve taken great pleasure in creating positive opportunities for students, it’s amazing to see the youth gravitate to physical activity by participating in engaging environments. I began coaching sports in 2016 and have lead multiple private/group sessions teaching lessons for grades K-8th basketball and track & field for students in the greater Austin area. Along with completing multiple internships in both elementary and high school levels, I graduated from Texas State University in 2022 with a Masters Degree in Exercise Science – I have set forth a goal in creating welcoming environments for students in SMCISD / Hays CISD and look forward to coaching sports to your kiddo(s)!

We aim to to promote student involvement through the use of sports while increasing each athletes identity.

Coach Wayne

(Lead/Assistant Coach)

I am a ex athlete whose passion for basketball extends beyond the court and into the realm of coaching. I discovered a love for the game at an early age and has since become a prominent figure in both playing and coaching. I started playing basketball at young age then I continued playing all the way to the college level. The journey in the sport led me to become a coach to the younger generation. Recognizing the impact that sports can have on young lives, I want devoted time to working with kids, instilling not just basketball skills but also essential life values like teamwork, discipline, and resilience. I’m currently a student at ACC to become radiologist but I will always have passion to coach youth.

Coach Ryan Johnson

(Lead/Assistant Coach)

I’ve worked in youth basketball for the past 9 years as a coach and trainer. I’ve coach players from ages 6U to Professional level, I am licensed as a coach/trainer through USA Basketball. I am currently focused on skill training, helping young player’s improve their fundamentals and become more efficient and effective basketball players. I love helping and watching players of all ages and skill levels develop and grow as players and as people through the game of basketball.

I have over 3 decades of experience playing at the high school, collegiate, and professional level. I played 2 years of Junior College ball at New Mexico Military Institute from 1991-1993 and transferred to Texas Wesleyan University and played there from 1993-1995. In 1995 I briefly played overseas in Antibes, France.

My priority is to first identify what the players goals are to determine a development plan that targets the specific areas where they want to improve their game. We will work through drills that are catered to their needs as a player and focus on proper mechanics and being as efficient as possible. There will be a mix of ball handling drills and shooting drills to improve the player footwork, balance, & pace. Based on the players skill level we will determine the best individual skill work to impact their growth in their position l, but not limiting their development to just their position. My number 1 goal is to create an environment that is FUN & COMPETITIVE, creates a great LEARNING experience where RECOGNITION is a constant part of the growth process.

Coach River

Lead/Assistant Coach

I am a student at Texas State University who has always had a passion for the game of basketball. Some of my earliest memories consist of playing basketball with my dad, and my love for the game has only grown ever since. I’ve played basketball my whole life, as well as competing in track and field in high school back in my hometown of Austin. Since attending Texas State, my focus has shifted away from playing these sports competitively, and towards coaching, and giving back in the ways I know how. While pursuing a degree in Exercise and Sports Science, I have learned so much about the human body and physical performance. My goal is to use this knowledge not only to help others learn about the human body, but also how to take better care of it. I believe that every child should have a great and equal opportunity to learn, compete in, and enjoy all of the wonders that athletics can bring. I hope to help these kids love sports, physical activity, and exercise, all while hopefully learning a thing or two on the way.

Coach Brianna

(Lead/Assistant Coach)

I have been playing basketball since I was 3 years old. I have always had a burning passion for this sport not only because it’s physically demanding, but because the game requires a lot of mental strength that teaches players to use their creativity and imagination. I graduated from Texas State University with my bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science in 2023. I have a few years of experience coaching my old high school varsity basketball team and working with our little dribbler program. I’m looking forward to making a positive impact for children that are new to the game and help encourage the youth to keep perfecting their craft while having fun at the same time!

Coach Bailee

(Lead/Assistant Coach)

I’m currently a student at Texas State University, where I’m majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Forensic Psychology. Back in high school, I was deeply involved in basketball and track, and that passion still burns within me. These sports taught me valuable lessons in teamwork and perseverance, skills that I bring to both my academic and personal pursuits. I’m excited not only to deepen my understanding of the legal system and human behavior but also to share my love for basketball and track by teaching kids the game. I hope to inspire them to develop a passion for sports just like mine.

Coach Carley

Lead/Assistant Coach

I’m passionate about developing skilled and athletic athletes, and I bring a dynamic blend of experience and enthusiasm to my coaching. As a former track and field athlete in college, I’ve gained a deep understanding of athletic development and performance. My track career, combined with my experience playing basketball at the varsity level, has allowed me to showcase a diverse set of skills and a strong commitment to sports.

Currently pursuing a degree in nursing along with a coaching minor, I’ve been able to channel my dedication into guiding young athletes. This journey has led to valuable coaching experiences with elementary, middle, and high school students. I’ve had the privilege of coaching basketball, where I’ve inspired and developed players through both strategic insights and a joyful approach to the game.

I firmly believe that every athlete has the potential to achieve greatness with the right guidance and support. My coaching philosophy focuses on creating an environment where athletes can thrive and reach their full potential. With a blend of technical expertise, hard work, and a spirited approach, I’m committed to helping young athletes succeed and enjoy their journey.

Coach Gus

Lead/Assistant Coach

I am a student at Texas State University majoring in psychology. I have been a multi-sport athlete my whole life.  I have several years’ experience coaching youth basketball, soccer and aquatic sports at summer camps, after school and community center programs.  Being a Youth Coach means so much to me because it is a role that, when done well, will always help to instill confidence, passion, and fun into a young person’s life. I believe every kid can make progress when challenged but guided with care and support, and each stage of development is equally valuable. My goal is to meet athletes where they are in both attitude and ability and give them the direction and environment they need to grow.

Coach Rachel

Assistant Coach

Hi, I am currently a student at Texas State University with a lifelong passion for basketball, one that began at a very young age. My basketball journey started when I was 7 years old and stuck with me through my senior year of High School. I started playing AAU in 6th grade until my junior year of High School. Basketball has been a HUGE part of my life, and will continue to be. It has taught me so much over the years, and my love for coaching and giving back is beyond. I believe every child deserves an equal opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of athletics. My goal is to help kids develop the love for sports, physical activity and exercise, all while learning valuable lessons along the way.
